It was all just a dream :( |
The CW's RINGER, featuring Sarah Michelle Gellar, aired its season finale episode 2 days ago. The said show is currently "on a bubble" since its future is still in danger - whether the network would give it a second season.
Brief synopsis:
Bridget Kelly (Sarah Michelle Gellar) is a recovering drug addict and stripper in Wyoming. She is under the protection of FBI Agent Victor Machado (Nestor Carbonell), having agreed to testify against her employer, local crime boss Bodaway Macawi (Zahn McClarnon), whom she witnessed commit murder. Fearing that Macawi, who has already murdered several witnesses linking him to previous crimes, will also kill her, Bridget flees to New York to meet her estranged twin sister Siobhan (also played by Gellar).Soon after arriving in New York, Siobhan, who had kept her sister's existence secret from her family, appears to commit suicide by jumping into the ocean. Bridget then assumes Siobhan's identity and tries to fit in among Siobhan's wealthy social circle, including Siobhan's husband Andrew (Ioan Gruffud), stepdaughter Juliet (Zoey Deutch), best friend Gemma (Tara Summers), and Gemma's husband Henry (Kristoffer Polaha) with whom Siobhan had been having an affair. The only one who knows that Bridget is passing as Siobhan is Bridget's Narcotics Anonymous sponsor Malcolm (Mike Colter). Bridget's life becomes more complicated as she discovers that her sister was hiding secrets of her own and that someone is trying to kill Siobhan as well. Little did Bridget know that her twin sister is still alive.
Due to small ratings that Ringer had received from the past 22 episodes, the show is currently on the verge of being cancelled. Looks like the double dose of SMG did not work on some people.
The current lives of the twins are almost perfect, especially with Bridget (as Siobhan) now that she's about to get married with Andrew. But just like from the past episodes of the show, it's not always what it seems. Bridget's from-rags-to-riches story did not end well.
So what happened on that episode?
Tim Arbogast, Gemma's father, swore that he will ruin Henry and Siobhan's life for what they did to his daughter Gemma. So, he told Andrew that Siobhan had an affair with Henry which made Andrew mad, and thus, he decided to call off the wedding. Bridget thereafter decided to tell Andrew (and Juliet) the truth - that she's not really Siobhan and she's just pretending to be her twin sister. Depressed and mad, Andrew and Juliet decided to leave NYC for a while.
Jimmy has escaped from prison and demands that Bridget, who he believes is Siobhan, give him part of the cash for scaring Bridget away. Bodaway demands Jimmy reveal where Bridget is, and after getting an answer, he kills Jimmy with a knife. Siobhan returns to her old apartment to steal all the jewelry that once was hers. Bodaway then attacks her believing she’s Bridget, and coincidentally, Bridget went up to Andrew's apartment and saw Bodaway so she killed him in self defense, however, she did not see who he is attacking.
Later that night, Solomon showed Bridget a security footage of Siobhan leaving with Jimmy after her "death". Bridget confronted Henry and found out that her Siobhan planned all of this and wants her to die.
Now for the review:
We saw that the lives of the sisters fell into rubble. I was quite disappointed because I was expecting an amazing and hot confrontation between the sisters, but apparently, they didn't even see each other. At least Bridget knows that Siobhan is alive.
The creators of Ringer mentioned before the airing of the season finale that there will be at least 2 deaths in the episode. Sad to say, but they're only Bodaway and Jimmy - in short, the bad guys. I thought Andrew or Henry or Juliet would die - somebody who is a MAJOR character.
On the bright side, I like how the finale retroacts to the main plot of the show and did not tackle any subplots it had in the middle of the season. It was all about the sisters and their lies.
Overall, the season finale (hopefully not the series finale) was a success. It was dramatic, thrilling, romantic, and exciting.
I really wish that The CW would give RINGER a second chance to prove itself. I know that the future would be more horrifying, yet exciting, for the sisters. There are still some unanswered questions and open loopholes which I hope to be fulfilled in the next seasons to come especially now that the sisters want one thing in common - Andrew and his wealth. After that finale, I would be rally pissed if Ringer gets cancelled.
