Imagine NBC's Parks and Recreation in a much much bigger environment.
HBO's freshman comedy series VEEP revolves around, well, the veep or the vice president of the United States of America Selina Meyer which is played by by the amazing Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
The show offers a straightforward comedy. It may not have tickled my funny bones at some moments but I surely burst out laughing on some. Obviously, the life of a vice president of a country can't be this funny and exciting. And I'm not sure if the real veep has an unbelievable desire to be the president.
However, Selina Meyer, together with all her staff, are constantly faced with problems to make the vice president look good to the public.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus is definitely the cherry on top of the show. If not for her, I'm not sure if Veep would work. Her professionalism as an experienced comedian and undeniable charisma reflect to the series' intelligent and timely comedic power.
Overall, Veep's kind of comedy may not work on some people but once you get used on how it works, be prepared to wipe some tears on your eyes due to laughing too much.
Ao, I'll give VEEP season 1 a rating of...
3.5/5
