From East to West (TOUCH 1x12 Gyre Episode Review)

TOUCH ended its freshman run using the same formula they've used through out the season, yet they added some spice to make the season finale episode more satisfying.

We saw different people, as usual, trying to do some things and by the end of the hour, their lives are connected. They also showed some familiar faces which appeared in the previous episodes already. Alongside with all of these, the battle for Martin's custody for his son Jake is still ongoing while he looks for the answers of the mystery behind Amelia and Aster Corp.

The biggest problem I have with Touch is that they're giving us the same things over and over again. Although I have to admit that some of their minor storylines are touching and heartwarming, some of it are just boring and predictable. I was expecting more in the finale, but I did not have it. They should have focused only on Martin and Jake and should not have dwell into the lives of other useless characters (like the man who looks for that Jamaican singer).

A revelation was.. well, revealed on the episode nonetheless. Looks like Amelia is alive and her death was faked.

Seeing Kiefer Sutherland with a gun and running all the time in an action packed sequence reminds a lot of his time in 24. Well, everytime I watch Touch, all I see is Kiefer as Jack Bauer. Anyway......

There are things that happened in the episode that baffles me.
  • Jake has a stash of awesome and cool  stolen smartphones under his bed. Knock Knock Daddy Martin, what the hell...
  • When Lucy - Amelia's mom -aka, the female version of Martin Bohm, found a hitchhiker, she already told him that she can't let him ride with her because she's seen to many horror movies. But when the stranger showed her something from his phone, Lucy immediately went nearer to him. Er, Lucy. I guess you haven't seen that much horror movies. That's like the first thing killers do when making their victims come to them.
  • Randall is rich, period. Who the fuck gives out a brand new car just like that? Oh wait. He has reasons.
  • That ugly touch screen phone which has been appearing everywhere since the pilot episode!!! I never thought so many people don't look for the real owner of the phone and then use it for themselves! And it's in Japan right now! How do they charge it, anyway?
  • What the hell is the deal with those two Japanese girls?
For the climax, Martin and Jake ran away to Los Angeles, California. The final scene was Jake finally touched his dad Martin. So I guess that's why it's called 'Touch', not 'Voice' - so Jake won't really talk.

Is Clea gone for good? Will season 2 focus on California now? Now that Martin found Lucy, what will happen next?
