In the episode, we saw some of our glee club members officially end their high school life through a festive and a very high school musical-ey Graduation. The entire episode basically focused on goodbyes, farewells, last chances, and happy endings from and between the students and teachers of McKinnley High.
Next season, it was announced that the show will not just stay in their high school, which means, the loyal fans of Glee can follow the lives of our favorite teen singers who graduated today as they embark on a new journey outside the walls of McKinnley High. But there's one question in mind: Will it work? Now that fans are slowly drifting away from the show because of the shaky and nonsensical second and third season, will they still tune in to the show they "enjoy"?
So let's break down on what happened in the season finale:
1. The seniors graduated! Except Brittany since she got a 0.0 GPA, obvi, she failed.
2. Finn, Kurt, and Rachel dramatically opened their college letters which contain whether they are admitted in the schools they applied to. Finn and Kurt were not accepted. But, surprisingly, NYADA accepted Rachel Berry. Looks like Carmen Tibideaux was impressed by Rachel's performance in the Nationals, and by the latter's small inspiring speech to her.
3. Rachel decided to defer her enrollment in NYADA by one year in order to help Finn and her bff Kurt make it to NYC too. But, in a surprising twist by the end, Finn urged Rachel to go to NYC and fulfill her dreams.... by breaking up with him. Also, Finn will apply to military to honor his deceased father.
4. Santana won't be a cheerleader anymore as she decided to go to NYC and ditch her cheer leading scholarship. Her mama - played by Gloria Estefan - even gave her some money!
5. Puck passed his European Geography exam by getting a C-, thus, enabling him to graduate.
6. The other Asian - Mike Chang - will head off to Chicago to continue on with his dancing career.
7. Mercedes (yes, she's a senior) will travel to the city of Angels (LA!) to become a back up singer in an indie band.
8. Quinn will still continue on with her Yale goal! The former cheerleader captain heads off to Yale, with some sad and touching farewells to her ex-coach Sue Sylvester, Puck, and Rachel.
I love the last part of it. Rachel singing her heart out in the streets of New York with a song I've never heard of before was beautifully done. In the end, Glee is about a group of kids who do their best to survive high school and to reach for their dreams. Lea Michelle has done an amazing job as a teeny bopper who is desperate to be a Broadway star.
Although the entire season had been weird, mishandled, and shaky, the finale justified the entire three seasons of Glee. It was dramatic, fun, full of music extravaganza, and a lot of final decisions. I love the fact that these kids dictate their destiny - and did not go with the flow of some stupid third party. However, the episode felt so disjointed and they let some hooks hanging. For example is Brittany's failure to graduate. It's like the characters do not give any sh*t to her, and she wasn't focused that much in the episode. It juts proves that Brittany is a minor character who only gets attention every time she says her "funny" one liners.
Ryan Murphy, creator of Glee, had mentioned that all of the casts will return next fall for a fourth season. I honestly do not agree with this. It would be better if they will just focus in the kids of McKinnley High, and not show any one from those who graduated already. Their life in Glee Club is over. Time to move on. It would be better if they will add more interesting characters, and also, the show will be worth-watching again if the writers handle each character's storylines well. Let's leave it to the minds of the viewers on what is going to happen to the previous glee clubbers.
Over all, the episode was okay. The songs were performed somewhat perfectly, and the writing for THIS episode was exceptionally done.
