Hawkthorne (Community 3x20 Digital Estate Planning Episode Review)

Community fans, we are in for a treat, aren't we? Three all new episodes of Community in one night.
 Cool cool cool.
In order to make my review easier, I decided to post three separate reviews for the 3 episodes each.

In Digital Estate Planning, the show did something unimaginable once again. An episode that proves how modern and imaginative the writers and producers of this show are. Last season, in "Abed's Uncontrollable Christmas", we saw the Greendale 7 in claymation as a result of Abed's weird and complex mind. In here, however, we saw them in 8-bit video game.

The gang are in it to win it. They decided to help Pierce reclaim his inheritance from his deceased father, but a challenge awaits them as his father's assistant Gilbert - played by Giancarlo Esposito - makes them play an old videogame which Mr. Hawthorne had developed years ago. It's called "Journey to the Center of Hawkthorne". And the price? The inheritance of the entire company.

But Gilbert is not playing nice. It was revealed that he is Pierce's half brother and he fights against the Greendale 7 in order to win the inheritance of his father which he has been aiming for in years.

In the end, when the study group almost won the game, Pierce decided to let Gilbert win... giving this moment one of Pierce's best.

When I first heard that they will do something like this, I was quite afraid that it would suck and would not meet my expectations. But I was wrong. "Digital Estate Planning" turned out to be better than "Abed's Uncontrollable Christmas". The entire episode, as mentioned above, was fun and imaginative, yet it didn't fail us in the plot and character development.

Pierce: Gilbert, you are right. You are more of a son to him than me. You took all of his crap and you didn't even get his name.
.....
Pierce: We've been only playing this game for a couple of hours, you've been playing it you're whole life. And now, it's time for your reward, brother.

Over all, the episode was awesome. The cute group huddle in front of Gilbert was nice, especially for Pierce. They realized that after all of this, winning is not everything.

This definitely goes to my "most favorite Community episodes" list.
