Sunset and New Beginnings (Cougar Town s03e1415 Season Finale Episode Review)

Sayonara, ABC! Hello, TBS!

ABC's Cougar Town has recently concluded its third run with a one hour finale bonanza.

Oh, and David Arquette was in the episode too.

When the writers of Cougar Town wrote this episode, they were probably wondering whether this will be the show's season or series finale. So, they basically decided to close some loopholes and open some new ones in order for the show to come back to something in its fourth season.

J-Bird and G-Spot got married! The whole episode focused on the  relationship of the two as they prepare for their wedding. Greyson decided to elope with Jules, but the soon-to-be-bride wanted to bring all of the cul-de-sac crew with them. So, they all went to this cozy town club or something for the wedding. But, the couple held it off since Greyson's daughter cannot come.

Remember the finale of season 1? When they were all hanging out in the beach? Well, the season 3 finale also ended in that sunny "Florida" beach. The gang held Jules and Greyson's wedding on the beach even if it's not allowed. They rushed it up, yet it was still sweet and romantic. We saw the newly-weds riding to the sunset while on a horse.

If you not yet know, I find Jules really annoying. She's self centered, an attention seeker, and selfish. That's why  when the group decided to give her a lesson when she chose Laurie to be her maid of honor (out of pity), I was really happy and satisfied. Laurie is my all time fave, and when I see her getting hurt, I feel sad too. Why does she always have to be the third party in the Jules-Ellie friendship?

As mentioned above, David Arquette was in the episode. Yes, he's Courteney Cox's ex husband. He was the concierge in that club house they went to, and he was attracted to Ellie (and vice versa)! I hope he'll be back next season since the writers did not close the whole Ellie-likes-another-guy story arc. It will be a good twist in the almost-perfect-yet-weird relationship of Ellie and Andy.

The episode also took a huge step in Travis' crush/love towards Laurie. Not a big fan of the two.....

I'm just happy that they did not go to the cliche would they-won't they get married episode plot. It has been done over and over again in so many wedding-episodes of a lot of TV shows.

Over all, the episode may probably not one of the show's best episode, but it was a nice episode to end a quite mediocre season. Now that Cougar Town will move on to TBS next year for its fourth and fifth season, and with the departure of the show's exec producer Bill Lawrence, the show needs a lot of wine and guts (and ratings) for it to be as good as its previous two seasons.
